Zosienka is an artist, designer and illustrator, with British and Polish heritage, who’s been living in east London since 2009. She takes inspiration from The River Lea and its surroundings, as her studio overlooks the Hackney Cut by the Middlesex Filterbeds. Zosienka has been artist-in-residence at Chats Palace since autumn 2016, creating illustrations focusing on the building’s heritage, architectural features and community activities.
Zosienka spent a lot of time at Chats Palace during the residency, dropping in on independently run classes, workshops and choir rehearsals as well as attending live performances to sketch life inside the building. Using the naturally lit blue room as a painting studio she captured the intricate details of the ornate skylights, the parquet floors, the old staircase and the trademark windows.
All works are painted by hand using watercolour and gouache paints.
Zosienka’s first illustrated children’s book will be available in the spring of 2018. Zosienka has designed prints for Cath Kidston, created album art work and merchandising for international music acts like Bat For Lashes, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Alesso. Her practice is varied and has been applied to film, interior design, branding, print & textile design and publishing.
This exhibition is located in the Library Bar and may be viewed during bar opening hours.
