Laura May Lewis, General Manager
Laura May joined Chats Palace as General Manager in July 2015 to support the Director in the delivery of a new vision for Chats Palace Arts Centre, working across all art forms to deliver a range of events from music gigs, theatre performances and workshops to weddings and private Parties. Laura May manages the Front of House team to deliver safe events to a high standard, developing the venue’s profile locally and nationally and maintaining and developing positive relationships with key partners to strengthen the charity’s local identity and reputation. Laura May is the main contact for all Chats Palace regular clients and new hirers.
Laura May was Executive Assistant for Julia Peyton-Jones at The Serpentine Galleries from 2013-2015 where she was responsible for managing the Directors office and maintaining the Directors busy schedule liaising with HNWI’s, Artists and Head of Departments prioritising the workload of the Director to ensure that numerous rolling deadlines were met, gaining experience working in the heart of an established gallery that delivers an annual exhibition programme, the Serpentine Summer Pavilion and the Marathon programme and Park Nights.
Laura May has a strong background working within the arts, particularly visual arts. In 2008 Laura May Co-Founded Hackney WickED Art Festival and in 2010 Hackney Wicked CIC, the social enterprise that runs Hackney WickED events where hundreds of Artists participate annually. Laura May has worked with Hackney WickED in many different capacities including developing and curating the Visual Art Programme, Event Production & Management Budgets, Fundraising and Partnerships & Sponsorship. In 2014 Laura May commissioned a series of site-specific installations and performances funded by Arts Council England for Hackney WickED.
