Photography and silk screen printing were core workshop activities of the community arts movement in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Both of these art forms were seen as modern, politically
engaged and accessible.
The establishment of Chats Palace 40 years ago was a high water mark of the community arts movement in London. The provision of darkroom and silk screen facilities were key to the initial
Chats Palace and the visual arts workers and photographers of the time worked with the Homerton community to produce the rich and informative visual archive that Chats Palace holds today.
Having celebrated its 15th anniversary in October 2017, Photochats has built on the tradition of community photography at Chats Palace and offers exhibition production, colour/ black and white photographic printing workshops and high quality traditional darkroom printing facilities.
The darkrooms are not open Mondays and Fridays- but are open every other day (including the weekend) at 10:00- 14:00 and/or 14:00 -18:00.
Darkroom printing time – the more hours you buy the lower the hourly cost.
Once purchased you can use the hours as you wish over a series of bookings for up to one year from the payment date.
4 hours – £20.00 (£5.00 per hour)
8 hours – £35.00 (£4.38 per hour)
12 hours – £45.00 (£3.75 per hour)
18 hours – £55.00 (£3.06 per hour)
24 hours – £65.00 (£2.71 per hour)
Cancellations are accepted before the day of the booking. People who cancel on the day or do not show up will be charged for their session.
