The Female Gaze: a discussion on the changing landscape for women in theatre

Part of International Women’s Month 2023

Inspired by our current photographic exhibition, Sheila Burnett’s The Female Gaze, a retrospective look at the trail-blazing female-led theatre companies of the 1980’s in Britain, this event will ask what it means to be a woman making theatre, both then and now.

Tickets include:

  • an exclusive guided tour of the exhibition from Sheila Burnett herself, who will provide key insights into the creative process and socio-historical context around the exhibition pieces.
  • a panel discussion inspired by the exhibition, exploring themes including breaking through the glass ceiling, setting the agenda, and how relevant these issues remain today. The panel will feature ground-breaking theatre makers Anna Furse, Angela Clerkin and Geraldine Pilgrim, chaired by Dr Susan Croft of Unfinished Histories. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions from the floor.
  • complimentary coffee and cake will be provided on arrival.
  • following the discussion there will be a complimentary drinks reception with wine, soft drinks and the opportunity to network.

We look forward to welcoming you to Chats Palace and celebrating the power of women in theatre.

Age suitability: 18+
