The Female Gaze: a discussion on the changing landscape for women in theatre
On Saturday 20 May we are holding guided tours of our latest exhibition, Sheila Burnett’s The Female Gaze, a retrospective look at the trail-blazing female-led theatre companies of the 1980’s in Britain.
Tours will run from 12pm & 2pm at Chats Palace Arts Centre.
At 1pm there will be a discussion (45mins) inspired by the exhibition, exploring themes including breaking through the glass ceiling, setting the agenda, and how relevant these issues remain today. Guests include theatre agent-provocateurs Angela Clerkin https://clerkinworks.com/ and Geraldine Pilgrim https://www.geraldinepilgrim.com/ both of whom feature in the exhibition. Conversation will be led by Susan Croft of Unfinished Histories https://www.unfinishedhistories.com/ and there will be an opportunity to ask questions if you wish.
If you are attending the tour at 2pm and would like to join the discussion, please arrive at 12.45.
Tickets include:
- an exclusive guided tour of the exhibition from Sheila Burnett herself, who will provide key insights into the creative process and socio-historical context around the exhibition pieces.
- complimentary coffee and cake will be provided on arrival.
- access to the discussion
