The Female Gaze: a discussion on the changing landscape for women in theatre
Part of International Women’s Month 2023
Inspired by our current photographic exhibition, Sheila Burnett’s The Female Gaze, a retrospective look at the trail-blazing female-led theatre companies of the 1980’s in Britain, this event will ask what it means to be a woman making theatre, both then and now.
Tickets include:
- an exclusive guided tour of the exhibition from Sheila Burnett herself, who will provide key insights into the creative process and socio-historical context around the exhibition pieces.
- a panel discussion inspired by the exhibition, exploring themes including breaking through the glass ceiling, setting the agenda, and how relevant these issues remain today. The panel will feature ground-breaking theatre makers Anna Furse, Angela Clerkin and Geraldine Pilgrim, chaired by Dr Susan Croft of Unfinished Histories. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions from the floor.
- complimentary coffee and cake will be provided on arrival.
- following the discussion there will be a complimentary drinks reception with wine, soft drinks and the opportunity to network.
We look forward to welcoming you to Chats Palace and celebrating the power of women in theatre.
