About Wonder Warriors

Following years of debilitating pain, multiple surgeries and hormone therapy including a chemical menopause to treat Endometriosis at Homerton Hospital, local Liz Coomb has set-up Wonder Warriors to support the wellbeing of women and people affected by the disease in creative ways.

Creative activities are widely used as a therapeutic tool to help people express and process emotions and experiences, reduce stress and anxiety and find relief and respite from illness.

From our experience, no one thing works for everyone with Endo so we have to be imaginative in finding different ways that work for different people. So we’re exploring and developing different toolkits and initiatives to creatively support wellbeing and we are delighted to have a residency at Chats Palace for our Warriors Retreats run in partnership with Voice Expressions!

About Warrior Retreats

Warrior Retreats are day-long sessions designed for women and people living with Endometriosis (diagnosed or suspected) to take time out and nourish themselves with creative and relaxing activities – think meditation, yoga, talking, singing, listening, sharing, moving with beautiful sights and sounds, delicious healthy food, chilled vibes, warm smiles, and laughter, in a supportive space, led by a wonderful team.

About the Wonder Warriors Team.

We’ll be led by the wonderful Brenda Rattray from Voice Expressions, where we will be encouraged to use our voices expressively, talking, listening, sharing, moving and singing. If you believe you can’t sing, this is definitely the place to be – we will find something that you can do vocally, with pride!

Gabrielle Chudi, Liz Coomb and Issy Mayne who run and facilitate the wellbeing sessions will be there too.

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a chronic disease where cells similar to those in the lining of the womb are found elsewhere in the body. Endo affects 1 in 10 women, trans men and non-binary people and has recently been recognised by the NHS as one of the top 20 most painful diseases. Despite its prevalence in affecting an estimated 1.5 million women and people in the UK, it takes on average 8 years to be diagnosed, the cause is unknown, there is currently no cure and there are limited support resources for those suffering with the disease.

Wonder Warriors is proudly supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
